The most common type of bracket used in orthodontics is the traditional metal bracket. A high-grade stainless steel is used in the brackets and wires. Metal brackets can be “dressed up” with your favorite colors, or colors to match holidays, seasons or sports teams, and are changed every time you come in. They can also be “dressed down” by using a gray or silver loop.

If you are looking for a more discreet option, ceramic or tooth color brackets may be for you. Their translucent appearance, combined with a clear loop, are less prominent than their metal counterparts. Some people like to dress up the ceramic bracket with colored loops to give the look some “pop.”

Aligner Therapy (Clear Aligners)

The most discreet option for orthodontics is clear aligners. Aligners are clear plastic overlays which, using computer-simulated 3D models, gradually shift your teeth from their original place to their optimal, most aligned position. Not all misalignments can be helped with aligners alone, so ask Dr. Gulland if clear aligners are the right option for your needs.
